Health & Safety
  1. Health & Safety in construction is a fundamental activity, with employers and employees alike constantly seeking to improve their standing and remove accidents and injury from the workplace.
  2. Entries are welcomed from all sectors of Jersey’s construction industry and can cover a range of initiatives, for example:-  Health & Safety Management Systems, Best Solution to an identified health & safety issue, Best Workplace health & safety scheme, Positive leadership for prevention and management of injury, Best individual contribution to workplace health & safety
  3. Submissions for this award will show a clear and measurable improvement with regard to health & safety, a positive attitude and a willingness to provide a safe working environment, either as an organisation or on an individual basis.
  4. Attention will be paid to key performance indicators as well as statistical data which effectively measures performance and quantifies success.
  5. No interviews will take place for this award and the overall winner will be judged by the written submission.
  6. The award will be judged by the ‘Jersey Council for Safety and Health at Work’

The Award winner will receive a Jersey Construction Award 2008 Trophy, a certificate and a training certificate worth £500.00  The shortlisted entrants will each receive a Jersey Construction Award 2008 Certificate of Commendation.

Environment Award
  1. Sustainability is commonly defined as ‘meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs’  The construction industry can make an exciting contribution to this principle in designing and building homes, offices and retail space that meet the criteria of sustainable architecture and construction.  These buildings will have a positive impact on the environment.
  2. Entries are welcomed from all types of developments and use of products within Jersey’s construction industry that demonstrate a positive attitude towards sustainable construction with a clear focus on environmental benefit for the builder/developer and end-user.
  3. Submissions must clearly demonstrate a desire to reduce the impact construction has on the environment when designing and planning, not only in the build process, but also the predicted energy consumed by the end-user.  Specific areas to be considered include:-  The total energy used; Water use and water saving techniques; Construction materials; Waste management; Transportation
  4. The award winner will have clearly demonstrated a clear and measurable gain, focusing on the long-term benefits to the environment.
  5. The Award is not restricted to new buildings and the Judging Panel will consider renovation and improvements in existing buildings.

The Award winner will receive a Jersey Construction Award 2008 Trophy and certificate.  The shortlisted entrants will receive a Jersey Construction Award 2008 Certificate of Commendation.

Best Use of Innovation
  1. Construction is an evolving science, with businesses constantly seeking to increase their productivity and effectiveness in the marketplace.  Clients and building users benefit from this process as suppliers move with the demands of the industry and its clients.
  2. Entries are welcomed from all types of innovations that have been applied within Jersey’s construction industry, whether they be products, processes, techniques, systems or other applications of cutting-edge approaches.  In the case of new products, we recognise that for this to make an impact in the Island, the product must be worthy of reward.
  3. Submissions for this award will show a clear and tangible demand for the product or system prior to the introduction to the marketplace, or alternatively demonstrate a quantum leap in technology.   Please indicate why your product/system is so much better than the way operations are undertaken at present.
  4. They will also clearly show the benefits being realised in the Island, both for the industry and its clients.  The product/system will have realised its potential during its usage in the Island.
  5. Given that products or systems may have been incorporated within an overall construction project that may/may not have been completed during 2007 the JeCC require that the product/system must have been introduced in the two years prior to December 31 2007 and must have provided a sustained benefit to the end user.
  6. The award is not restricted to physical items.  The judging panel will consider advances in management, financing or legal issues that represent a perfect example of innovation. 
The award winner will receive a Jersey Construction Award 2008 Trophy and certificate.  The shortlisted entrants will each receive a Certificate of Commendation.
Community Involvement
  1. Our industry is very much dependent on the demands and aspirations of our community as a whole.  Construction fulfils an intrinsic contribution to the fabric of our Island life and, following the success of this category last year, this award aims to recognise and raise awareness of those whose efforts have benefited the community in some way.
  2. There are fantastic examples of community involvement that take place every day in our industry and we aim to give them the Island-wide recognition they deserve.
  3. The Island’s industry, community and schools are invited to submit entries showing how individuals, businesses or groups have used the construction industry to the benefit of the community at large.  Projects can be of any size, sector and from any area of the community.
  4. Alternatively, entries are also invited from associations, organisations and businesses from within the industry that have sought to raise awareness of the industry to the Island as a whole through the undertaking of their duties and work.

The award winner will receive a Jersey Construction Award 2008 Trophy and certificate.  The shortlisted entrants will each receive a Certificate of Commendation.

Project of the Year under £500,000
  1. Applications will be considered from any category or type of construction project that was completed during 2007.  The judging panel is interested in quality not necessarily quantity.  This category encompasses any type of construction project; new build, refurbishments, landscaping, public realm works, services and other types.  All will be equally considered.
  2. We are seeking to recognise the team effort that is construction by rewarding an outstanding example of teamwork.  As part of the teamwork criteria, this year judging will also focus on supply chain and sub contractors.
  3. Entries can be submitted by anyone involved in the project, whether they be Client, Consultant, Contractor, Sub-Contractor or Supplier, but this must be with the Client’s express permission and fully supported by the other construction team members.  The submission will emphasise the challenges faced by the team in the completion of the project and how they worked together collectively and co-operated with each other to overcome these challenges.  This award is not about design alone.
  4. An early and co-ordinated approach to managing the technical and commercial risks involved with a project and cost and quality requirements of the Client will be very clearly demonstrated.
  5. Final submissions must include information on the type of procurement used, the completed value of the project and the project timescale.

Young Achiever
  1. The future of construction in Jersey is dependent on the young individuals working in our industry today.  Accordingly the JeCC seek to highlight and recognise those whose efforts and abilities exceed normal expectations, encouraging them to go onto greater achievements throughout their following career.
  2. In being shortlisted for the award, you will be in the early stages of your career and have shown ability, drive and commitment at your level as a professional, tradesman or trainee.  An awareness of your strengths and weaknesses, and a plan for your continued development, together with a demonstrable passion for the industry will all be evident to the Judging Panel.
  3. An inherent appreciation of the industry and the service it provides to its clients will also score well for entrants of this award.
  4. To win this award you will need to demonstrate that you are a rounded individual who has been tested and performed under pressure, with a proven ability to have consistently provided a high standard of service to your employer, your clients and the industry.
  5. Submissions are welcome from those who are 30 years and under as at 01 January 2008.
  6. The provision of an organisation chart to show the Judging Panel, the entrant’s position within their business is recommended.
  7. The recognition gained by winning this award is a confirmation of the potential that you have continuously shown as a young individual.
Interviews will take place for this award and the winner will receive a Jersey Construction Award 2008 Trophy and a certificate of commendation.  Shortlisted entrants will receive a Certificate of Commendation.
Industry Achiever
  1. No project would be complete without a sound approach to management.  The more complex the building, the greater the demands placed on the construction team and individuals within it to manage safely and efficiently the resources required to meet the Client’s targets and aspirations.
  2. Entries are positively encouraged from all sectors of the construction industry.  As well as those managing building projects, we hope to receive entries from professional service providers and individual trades, including those managing sub-contract work.  We want to see a shortlist comprising bright, innovative forward-thinking individuals at all levels of the management chain.
  3. The entrants will show all attributes of a leader in their team, an individual who has a unique ability to motivate and focus others around them to overcome the challenges and achieve the goals faced by the team.
  4. Submissions must include an Organisation Chart to demonstrate the level and position of management currently held.
  5. The award winner will visibly demonstrate the epitome of the ‘can do, will do’ approach.
Interviews will take place for this award and the winner will receive a Jersey Construction Award 2008 Trophy and certificate.  The shortlisted entrants will each receive a Certificate of Commendation.
Business of the Year
  1. The JeCC is only too aware of the high quality that is provided by all of the industry’s service providers, whether from within or to the industry.  We are therefore seeking to market this to the Island as a whole, whilst affording you an opportunity to promote quality and excellence to the Island.
  2. Businesses should show a commitment to the long-term future of the industry, the community and their clients.  They should be able to exhibit high standards of work throughout, across a range of products or projects under varying conditions.
  3. Emphasis and attention will be given to businesses that show an understanding and appreciation for the welfare and development of their staff, and a sensible approach to managing risk in their business.
  4. You will demonstrate good use of the local construction industry, with a sound understanding of your obligations and your Clients’ requirements, and of the challenges faced by a particular project or situation.
  5. Prominent in your submission will be mention of health & safety, training and development, a sound business plan and an overall achievement of excellence in your field.  Finally an innovative approach to problem solving will enhance your score.
  6. By winning this category, you will have proved yourself to be not necessarily the biggest or most prominent business within the industry, but the best!

The Award winner will receive a Jersey Construction Award 2008 Trophy and a certificate.  The shortlisted entrants will each receive a Jersey Construction Award 2008 Certificate of Commendation.
